Captain Al’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant offers good food in a fun environment. The first thing you will have to do is scale the stairs to the restaurant as the building is located at the top of pilings because it is adjacent to the Bayou. The parking lot at Captain Al’s is almost always full of cars which means that it’s busy inside.

The first time I went there, I opened the door and there were not tables to sit at. So, we left and decided to return when it was less busy. We picked a weekday afternoon when the crowds were thin and the service was outstanding. The folks who waited on us (more than one) were very pleasant and helped us navigate the menu.

As with most Mississippi Gulf Coast restaurants that I like to visit, the atmosphere was unique. It was an interesting place with items hanging off the walls and ceiling (see photo below). Sure enough to keep you busy when there is no game on or there is lull in cell phone activity. You can sit at the bar or table.

They have a website where you can view their menu. Many of the individually owned restaurants on the Gulf Coast do not have their own website so you have to visit some of the typical restaurant review sites to see the menu. We had the gumbo and double hamburger. Once again I violated my code by eating red meat that what I think of as a seafood restaurant. With great seafood offerings including “royal reds” why the hamburger?

Well it’s like this. We are from California, don’t laugh, really. We moved to the Gulf Coast to eat seafood but on occasion we miss In and Out burgers in CA. So we continue to try burgers at various restaurants to find one that comes close. In my opinion this one comes very close, it was good.

The gumbo was great as well and we also had the fried pickles as an appetizer. The menu is extensive and we will return for seafood the next trip (perhaps we an go with someone who will order the burger and give me a bite).

In case I forgot to mention, we eat at restaurants that are rated “A” by the health authorities. This one is of course rated “A”. It was clean and designed to have fun. The good was great and the service well do not get me started. It was the best service since we arrived on the Gulf Coast and that is saying something because if there is one constant about this area is that people working in the restaurants are the best. I like talking with them because they are almost all from the area and they always tell me fomenting that I did not know.

Captain Al’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant is located at 1458 Magnolia St. Gulfport, Mississippi. When you drop by mention this review.

As always, I do not receive any benefit from the restaurant for this review. Please check out other reviews on this site.
