Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast until you agree that you will not move here and want what you had where you moved from. If you miss avocado toast, try grits. If you miss not having plastic bags at the grocery store, refuse to take them.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast until you are ready to embrace the local culture rather than to change it. If you are coming from a large high cost state where everything is in a hurry, this is not place for you.

If you want more government services, stay where you are. When you ask the government to do something for you someone has to pay the cost. If one of the reasons why you want to move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast is because of low cost housing, gas and other things, do not expect those benefits if you want big city services.

Things has worked well on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a long time without the need to ban everything.

Excellent Fishing

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you hate guns, fishing and the outdoor life. This is part of the culture that you should embrace. If you came from a state that bans things, try being an adult here. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast people believe in personal responsibility.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you are afraid that your children may grow up and become welders, plumbers, carpenters and work with their hands. Where Americans do all of the work required to keep the economy moving.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you are satisfied with underperforming schools without programs. Do move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you want your children to participate in band, sports and other activities.

New Orleans Cafe, Biloxi

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you are satisfied with chain store burgers and ordinary food. You will have to get acquainted with new, flavorful foods served from mom and pop restaurants. Families own most of the restaurants and some have been here for generations.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you will miss being in traffic with an hour or more commute to your job. Rush time is measured in minutes not hours. If you like wasting fuel, this is not the place for you. If you want to pay less for fuel, you will be coming to the right place.

Don’t move too the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you will miss demonstrations, gangs, graffiti everywhere. You will be disappointed here.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you keep to yourself and do not like people being polite to you. If you do not want to know or talk to your neighbors or hate seeing families walk the sidewalks and streets, stay where you are.

This is not the MS Gulf Coast

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you must have a traffic helicopter filming cops and robbers chases or reporting on freeway shootings. You will be disappointed.

Don’t move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you need crowds at the store, on the streets, everywhere you go. If you like to walk up to the register without waiting for more than about one possibly two people this is your place. If you like finding a place to park near the door without needing a handicapped sticker, move here.

Do move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you love warm weather, beaches, water sports, fishing, hunting, golfing and a casual life style without snow.

Do move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you want excellent medical care, low cost housing, low taxes and where seniors receive benefits everywhere.

Do move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you are former military. There is no place that values your service like this area. Most retailers offer discounts to military and former military. Lowes even has parking for vets.

Do move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast if you want to reduce stress and improve your health. There are activities every month of the year from Mardi Gras parades in every city to cultural events involving local food and crafts.

We welcome you if you wish to relocate and absorb the rich culture that started here in 1699. The French came first followed by the British and Spanish. Some families in the area trace they’re roots back many generations. Unlike typical suburbs with no connection to the land, you are very likely to meet true locals.

Just come and take things as they are. Yes there are warts, nothing is perfect. There is minor crime, not everyone gets along. Yes, we have humidity a few months of the year but as I write this, it’s 72 F and sunny on February 24 and it’s about 32 F in Southern California. It’s easy to see past the minor issues here because they are just minor not in your face every day as is some other areas.

Many people still leave their door unlocked. Children are not subject to metal detectors at school and it’s ok to join the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts and wave our American flag. If you are a liberal, you will not be degraded. If you are a conservative, liberals are probably among your friends.

Biloxi Bay at Dusk

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is not perfect but it is somewhat insulated from the politics of large states and cities. People here are focused on this area not what is happening several states away. The state of Mississippi is not trying to rule the world.
